Wild Facts Wild Feiten

So, I am back from holidays and probably need another vacation to recover from the excitement over the last two weeks. Dus, ik ben weer terug van vakantie en moet waarschijnlijk een andere vakantie te herstellen van de opwinding over de laatste twee weken. Now that everything is back to normal, lets get onto Wild Fact #880 which will be about one of my favourite animals. Nu alles weer normaal is, kun je op Wild Feit # 880, die zal gaan over een van mijn favoriete dieren. The Mountain Gorilla is a large animal that can weigh between 100 to 200 kg (220-440 lbs). De berggorilla is een groot dier dat kan wegen tussen de 100 tot 200 kg (220-440 lbs). Believe it or not the gorilla is thought to be very intelligent, which has often been compared to dolphins and humans. Geloof het of niet de gorilla wordt gedacht dat zij zeer intelligent, dat vaak is vergeleken met dolfijnen en mensen. Surprisingly the mountain gorilla is actually a calm, gentle, social and peaceful creature.  They are mainly vegetarians and if you were to watch their young you would think you were watching your kids play in the backyard.  There is a huge misconception of the gorilla standing tall and pounding his chest while roaring into the darkness of the forest.  The leader of the group, which is often a mature, strong male called a silverback, will portray this image while protecting their group.  As well, they will display this behaviour if they get excited but this reputation does not define all mountain gorillas. Verrassend de berggorilla is eigenlijk een rustige, vriendelijke, sociale en vreedzame schepsel. Ze worden hoofdzakelijk vegetariërs en als je om te kijken naar hun jonge je zou denken dat je je kinderen kijken te spelen in de achtertuin. Er is een enorme misvatting van de gorilla staan lang en stampende zijn borst, terwijl brullen in de duisternis van het bos. De leider van de groep, die vaak een volwassen, sterke man heet een zilverrug, zal dit beeld te schilderen, terwijl de bescherming van hun groep. zo goed, ze zal dit gedrag te vertonen als krijgen ze opgewonden, maar deze reputatie niet definieert alle berggorilla's. Don't get me wrong, I still don't recommend going up and trying to pet a wild gorilla.  I am just saying that they are actually a very peaceful, social animal that needs to be respected and admired. Begrijp me niet verkeerd, ik nog steeds niet aan te raden gaan en proberen te aaien een wilde gorilla. Ik zeg alleen dat ze eigenlijk een zeer rustige, sociaal dier dat moet worden gerespecteerd en bewonderd.

Unfortunately some people admire them too much and continue to poach them since they consider the silverback to be a trophy. Helaas sommige mensen bewonder hen te veel en blijven ze pocheert, omdat zij van mening zijn de zilverrug een trofee te worden. Then there are the people that don't care and simply destroy their habitat. Dan zijn er de mensen die niet alleen zorg en vernietiging van hun habitat. For these reasons the mountain gorilla is considered to be endangered with only 600 to 800 of them remaining in the wild. Om deze redenen is de berggorilla wordt geacht te zijn bedreigd met slechts 600 tot 800 van hen nog in het wild. The good news is that in 1991 a coalition called the International Gorilla Conservation Program (IGCP) was formed which assists in protecting these gorillas as well as their ever important habitat. Het goede nieuws is dat in 1991 een coalitie van de International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) genoemd werd gevormd die helpt bij de bescherming van deze dieren en hun habitat ooit belangrijk. It is believed that the population of gorillas is steady and may even be on the rise but as usual there is a constant battle between humans and animals. Men is van mening dat de bevolking van gorilla's is stabiel en kan zelfs op de stijging maar zoals gewoonlijk is er een constante strijd tussen mens en dier.
