You really have to hand it to the science-fiction tv shows and movies. The writers and directors get to create creatures that are beyond our imagination. What is impossible is made possible on the big and small screens, especially when it comes to fictional living things. But as they say, truth is stranger than fiction. You’d be surprised to see or hear about an animal that looks like something from another planet or dimension actually existing here on Earth. A few of those animals we’ve listed here are just that. Yes, they look like they’re from outer space or in another dimension or universe. Prepare to be amazed, or creeped out, or both.

If a vampire bat bit into a regular deer, this was probably what it would look like if it chooses to bare its fangs on unsuspecting victims. But no really, this deer is an endangered species that is commonly found in Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. Fortunately, only the males have the tusks, and they only use them to compete for a female mate. Unfortunately, as we’ve mentioned earlier, this type of deer is endangered, due to loss of habitat and because of pesky poachers.

Commonly found in the southeastern part of Australia, west of Adelaide and all the way east through Victoria and in New South Wales and north to Queensland, in the Fitzroy river. At first it may look like the head of the turtle got stretched out and never returned to normal, and it does look like it. This species of turtle is also an opportunistic feeder, and is also carnivorous, and can eat all kinds of animals, from insects to worms, tadpoles, frogs even, and small fish, shellfish as well as mollusks.

This creature might surprise you at first, especially when it lifts its head up and shows its nose. This mole is commonly found in the small and wet places of eastern Canada and in the northeastern parts of the United States. It’s unique snout is actually a sensory touch organ, with over 25,000 receptors, and the mole uses it to feel around where it’s going. The mole, using it’s snout, can also detect seismic wave vibrations, which means it can detect if an earthquake is coming.

No, nothing’s wrong with your computer or mobile device, they’re really like that! These snub-nosed monkeys can be found mostly in Asia, specifically in southern China, in places like Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, and in Guizhou. Why are they called snub nosed monkeys? Compared to the other species of monkeys, this one has a short stump of a nose, with their nostrils placed forward. They also have multi-colored fur, as you can see in the photo of the golden snub-nosed monkeys.

It’s a squid, with teeth, but not really. It’s one of the more recently discovered deep sea creatures, and was found in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, 1750 to 2000 meters under the sea. While squids in general have sharp beaks that they use to eat their prey, this particular squid has its beak deep inside its mouth. And those teeth? They’re actually circular folded lips.

If you thought bulls and moose had the big horns, think again! This ankole-watusi, or Ankole Longhorn is a type of cattle which is found in Africa. Those horns can measure as long as 8 feet from tip to tip! And are naturally used for defense as well as cooling by honeycombs of blood vessels. They mostly graze in the grasslands and savannas.

What do you get when you splice a praying mantis with a shrimp? You get a mantis shrimp! And it isn’t just any mantis shrimp, it’s a very multi-colored mantis shrimp! Found in the Indian river near Fort Pierce in Florida, USA. It may seem like a rare sea creature because of its color, but there are over 450 species of this crustacean, with a varying color range from the usual brown to the multi-colored one that you can see in the photo.

Also known as the Grimpoteuthis, this is a kind of pelagic umbrella octopus that lives down in the deep blue sea. They can be found off the coast of Oregon, as well as in places in the Philippines, New Zealand, Australia, Papua, and Papua New Guinea among many others. They are also one of the deepest living octopuses that have been discovered and studied.

Sadly deemed as the world’s ugliest fish by many, the blobfish is found in the deep parts off the coasts of mainland Australia and Tanzania, and it can also be found in the waters of New Zealand. They live 600 meters to 1,200 meters under the sea and it’s body is mainly a gelatinous mass which is less dense than water, thus giving the fish an ability to be able to float above the sea floor without having to use up a lot of its energy on swimming. Don’t be fooled by this one however, as while it lacks some muscle, it can eat up edible matter that usually passes in front of it like deep-sea crustaceans.

Found usually in the Bay of Bengal and in parts of Southeast Asia, this species of dolphin is related to the orca or killer whale in terms of genetics, as well as the snubfin dolphin, and thus, compared to the regular dolphin that we usually see in water parks, this dolphin does not have a beak, and the flippers are very wide and rounded.

This is one of the three species of manatees in the world. It’s found in the waters of over 40 countries, especially in the Indo-West Pacific region. You won’t have any difficulty in telling a dugong from an average manatee. How? It’s tail is similar to that of a dolphin’s, and it also has a uniquely shaped skull as well as dentures. The snout of a dugong is overturned which is useful for feeding on seagrass.

This Pokemon-like creature is also known as the sea swallow, blue angel, blue glaucus, blue dragon, blue sea slug and blue ocean slug. The glaucus atlanticus can be found throughout the waters all over the world, and several that have been documented, were found in the eastern and southern coasts of South Africa, Europe, as well as the eastern coast of Australia and Mozambique. While they live in the open sea, they tend to wash up on the shore thus they can also be found on beaches.

1. Kashmir Musk Deer
