We tend to usually think, that when it comes to animals, they supposedly only bond and befriend those among their species only. But there have been times, and a lot of them at that, that we have been proven wrong. Animals can actually get along just as much as we humans do. Like us, animals can form lasting friendships with other different animals, from small animals befriending giant animals, from predators bonding with their prey, even animals can get along, perhaps even better than we do. They are the animals who embody the ever so popular hashtag: #friendshipgoals.

1. The Elephant And The Labrador

"the

Meet Bubbles the African elephant and Bella the black labrador. Bubbles was brought to the U.S. to stay in a safari reserve after being rescued from ivory poachers. As for Bella? A contractor seemed to have left her in the park. The two of them ended up becoming the best of friends ever since. Bubbles even lets Bella use her as a diving board.

2. The Chick And The Kitten

"the

Now, one might think that cats and chickens don’t even mix. Even a kitten might look at a chick and think that they’re breakfast or lunch, but with these two, that did not seem to happen. This orange tabby kitten from Russia managed to stand by this little chick’s side. Pavylovskya hens, especially babies at that, are rather vulnerable to getting eaten by rats and other similar creatures, but luckily, this chick got through untouched thanks to the kitty by its side.

3. The Giraffe And The Ostrich

"the

Bea the giraffe and Wilma the ostrich. Both of them stayed at Busch Gardens in the U.S. One might think that they ended up having to bond seeing as they were in a bit of an enclosed space. But that wasn’t the case at all, and it wasn’t such an enclosed space at all, seeing as they had 65-acres of land to roam around on, they became the best of friends anyway.

4. The Elephant And The Sheep

"the

The loss of a parent, especially at a young age when it comes to animals, can leave the baby in a rather fragile state. It was the case for a baby elephant named Themba, whose mother died. The veterinarians at the Shamwari Game Reserve thought that maybe Themba would be able to be adopted by the other elephants to be able to feed, but no luck. While they took Themba in, he was too unhappy to even eat. Worried that he might starve himself to death, they introduced him to a sheep named Albert, who came from a farm nearby. While things were a little unsettling at first, the two of them ended up becoming thick as thieves. Plus, Themba also started eating.

5. The Dog And The Wild Fox

"the

It’s like a real life version of the Disney movie “The Fox and the Hound”, only more adorable. Since the first time they met in a forest in Norway. Tinni, the dog and Sniffer the wild fox are undoubtedly close, so close to the point that even Tinni’s owner loves taking photographs of the two whenever they play in the woods.

6. The Deer And The Goose

"the

Can we say #friendshipgoals? This goose from Canada decided to nest on an urn in a cemetery in Buffalo, New York. While this goose was sitting on her eggs, a buck stood by her side the whole time, and even after the eggs have hatched, the buck stood by to keep off pesky crows who aim to eat the baby birds.

7. The Dog And The Owl

"the

When Shrek was a little baby owl, the handlers decided to take him off his mother’s care for fear that the mother might eat him. Enter Torque the dog, who adopted Shrek when he was only 6 months old! Needless to say, Shrek grew up well, and the two of them have become the best of friends, even sharing the spot on the couch when they want to watch tv.

8. The Cheetah And The Shepherd Dog

"the

Try not to squeal from how cute these two are. Proof that cats and dogs can get along instead of being assumed as mortal enemies. Sahara the cheetah and Alexa the Anatolian shepherd dog grew up together in the Cincinnati Zoo. They are part of the Cat Ambassador Program of the zoo, with the cooperation of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, in order to protect these cats from getting endangered. The program informs the farmers in Namibia and in South Africa on how these shepherd dogs can help to protect their livestock from cheetahs without having to resort to shooting them.

9. The Labrador And The Duckling

"the

Dennis the duckling was in danger after the unfortunate incident of his mother getting attacked by a fox. Fred the labrador, along with his owner Jeremy, found and rescued the little duckling. Fred and Dennis have since become the best of the friends. Although Fred’s always shown how good of a dog he is, as he previously adopted a deer. Jeremy must have been really proud of how kind his dog is.

10. The Mouse And The Frog

"the

When disaster strikes, all people could do is try and help each other out. In the case of these small animals, the floodwater was going nowhere but up. Back in India in 2006, a photographer caught a mouse on the back of a frog, the frog helping him stay above the water as the water level was rising. Around that time, the monsoon rains came early, but the mouse was able to make it thanks to the friendly frog who helped him stay above water.

11. The Hen And The Puppies

"the

For this story, we could probably owe it all to the hen’s foot injury, as it saved her from getting killed and cooked. Mable the hen was then moved inside the home of her owner, where she was able to find new friends, in the form of two puppies! As if it couldn’t get any more adorable, the hen liked to sit on the puppies and keep them warm while their mother was out playing in the yard.

12. The Cat And The Crow

"the

There have been nothing but smiles on our faces, and hopefully also yours at this point. One day, a kitten appeared in the yard of an elderly couple in Massachusetts. At first the couple, Wallace and Ann Collito, were worried about Cassie, the name they gave the kitten, but soon learned that they didn’t have to as they saw, in an act of surprising friendliness and care, a crow came and took care of the kitten, feeding it bugs and worms and keeping Cassie off the street. Over the years, the couple took to filming the friendship that grew between this cat and the crow, until eventually Cassie got to sleep inside the house. But that didn’t stop Moses, the crow, from coming by to visit as every morning he would be outside the house waiting for Cassie to come out and play.

13. The Dog And The Lion

"the

As if it couldn’t get any more adorable. Bonedigger the lion was suffering from a metabolic bone disease and thus was disabled. Milo the dachshund soon came along and kept him company. Years later and they are still as close as ever, with the addition of Milo’s other dachshund friends, Bullet and Angel.

14. The Lion, The Tiger, And The Bear

"the

Somewhat like the deadly trio if they were ever to be messed with. Cutely enough, they were also named after characters of “The Jungle Book”, at least two of them are. Leo the lion, Shere Khan the tiger, and Baloo the bear, were all rescued when they were cubs during a police raid of a drug lord’s home in Atlanta, Georgia. The three of them were moved to a rescue center and the zookeepers thought of keeping them together, and until today they still are! Living and playing with each other. According to a zookeeper, he says that the animals are unaware that they are not natural companions. Friendship knows no bounds, even in the animal kingdom.

15. The Cat And The Fox

"the

These two friends were caught playing by the fishermen on the shores of Lake Van in Turkey. As the photo alone suggests, they are the best of friends.

16. The Polar Bear And The Dog

"the

In the northern part of Canada, a photographer named Norbert Rosing was taking some photos when a polar bear suddenly appeared. Knowing polar bears, they aren’t exactly a friendly bunch, especially when it came to Canadian Eskimo sled dogs, which Norbert’s friend Brian Ladoon was a breeder of. But he was surprised when the polar bear did the opposite; he nuzzled one of the dogs and the dog licked his face in return! So cute.
